Our Cabinet Painting Process

Step 1: Prep Work

Before we begin, we walk the project with you. We verify every detail and answer your questions.

As with all painting, the quality of the finish comes down to the prep work. Our painters protect your kitchen from any splatter or overspray, and anything not getting painted gets covered. We also set up a temporary spray booth — typically in your garage.

Step 2: Painting

The process and products depend on your kitchen — each one is unique, and we customize the approach in your quote so you don't pay for anything you don't need. A typical kitchen looks like this:

   Remove & Transport

   We remove cabinet doors, drawers and all hardware. Then we take them to the temporary spray booth in your garage.

   Light Sanding

   We lightly sand as needed for paint adhesion.

   Caulking

   Lines and seams are caulked where needed.

   Spray Primer

   Often we use a spray primer — typically oil-based. Oil-based primer seals the surface of the wood so the paint covers better.

   Two Sprayed Coats

   Most cabinets get two sprayed coats of paint. Which paint is best depends on the job — over the years we've found certain products perform better in different situations. A dark color may call for a different product than a white.

   Quality Inspections

   Throughout the process, our painters and Quality Managers run numerous quality inspections to make sure everything looks great.

   Reassemble & Clean Up

   We put everything back together and clean up your beautifully refreshed kitchen.

How Long Does It Take?

Our process typically takes 3–4 days, depending on the size of your kitchen and the work involved. Our team is always mindful that we're guests in your home — we'll stay out of your way and keep as much of your kitchen usable as possible throughout the project.
